The annual Helpmann Awards recognise distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia's vibrant live performance sectors, including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, cabaret, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre. The Helpmann Awards also incorporates the JC Williamson Award™ for outstanding contribution to the Australian live performance industry.

NIDA is Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art, a centre of excellence in training for theatre, film and television. NIDA's primary role is to select and train exceptionally talented young people at a tertiary level, preparing them for careers in theatre, film and television.

The School of Performing Arts encompasses the intensive disciplines of Dance, Theatre and Production and forms a vital part of the VCA community. This vibrant and innovative school honours both traditional convention and contemporary development in the performing arts and emphasises autonomous artistic development within a highly collaborative, ensemble environment.

For over 30 years, the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts has been in the business of helping its students realise their dreams of successful careers in the performing arts and entertainment industries. Our graduates excel in their chosen fields around the world, confirming WAAPA’s reputation as Australia’s premier performing arts academy. Unparalleled in any other Australasian arts training institution, we provide students with the greatest diversity of ‘on the job’ theatrical experiences. Students have access to ‘simulated industry’ training in the design, construction and management of the Academy’s annual repertoire of over 35 supported productions utilising seven diverse performance venues on campus as well as regular performances in Perth, across regional WA, interstate and overseas. Add to the mix a series of short films produced in partnership with the WA Screen Academy, as well as 200 concerts annually and you have Australia’s busiest production house.
